It was a good win for the Hornets, who now sit at 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the Orange Empire Conference, while the Hawks remain winless at 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the OEC.
The Hornets opened strong taking the first two sets 25-19 and 25-18 before hitting a speed bump in the third set. Vying for the sweep, Fullerton got ahead of itself as Santiago Canyon still had some fight left to steal it 27-25. The battle was on as both teams came out swinging in the fourth set, but it was the Horents who came out on top outlasting the Hawks 26-24.
Sophomore outside hitter Bri Stotmore led the charge with a match-high 12 kills and 14 digs for a recording a double-double performance. Freshman outside hitter Ayva Espinda added 10 (a team-high .571 hitting percentage), while Savannah Hernandez followed up with 8 and Klaudia Bustillo chipped in with 7.
Defensively, the Hornets were anchored by Jaidyn Preciado, who had a season-high 17 digs. Stotmore (14), Cecilia Arroyo (13), and Voleahk Veakrakmann (13) kept the ball alive with 40 combined digs.
With the win, Fullerton notched their first conference victory of the season and showed resilience in closing out two tight sets under pressure.
