It was a busy year filled with many individual accomplishments and team successes as the Fullerton College Athletics Department welcomed student-athletes, parents, faculty, and administration into the Hornets Nest on Thursday afternoon for the 24th Academic Athletic Awards honoring excellence in academics and athletic achievement.
Fourteen exceptional individuals and one national championship team were honored on Friday night at the 9th Fullerton College Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Dinner.
At the CCCAA State Swim & Dive Meet last weekend, FC's Anoushka Jaievsky took 2nd place overall in the 400 Individual Medley race, while earning two other medals in the 200 IM and 200 Breaststroke.
After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the Fullerton College Athletics Department welcomed student-athletes, parents, faculty, and administration back into the Hornets Nest on Tuesday afternoon for the 23rd Academic Athletic Awards honoring excellence in academics and athletic achievement.
For seven seasons from 2011-2017, East Los Angeles College's Swim Stadium was a haven for record-setting performances. But in 2018-2019, the state meet shifted up North to De Anza College. A return to ELAC was expected in 2020 but the COVID-19 pandemic not only cancelled the championship that year, but the meet was nixed again along with most competition throughout the state in 2021.
The FC women's swim team placed third overall at the Orange Empire Conference Finals this past weekend at Riverside City College.
The 2022 Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships are set to kick off on Thursday, April 21 – Saturday, April 23 on the campus of Riverside City College. A handful of competitors will fight for the top spot as the field is full of talented individuals representing Cypress, Fullerton, Golden West, Orange Coast, Riverside and Saddleback.
The Hornets turned some heads this past weekend at the Pasadena City College Invitational.
The Hornet women's swim and dive team placed 3rd overall while the men placed 5th at the Orange Empire Conference Championships held at Orange Coast College last Friday.
The 2021 swim season was shortened considerably by COVID-19 but heading into the Orange Empire Conference Finals the programs have two meets under their belts. A number of solid times have been recorded in the opening two meets of the season heading into the finals this week at Orange Coast College.
The National Girls and Women in Sports Day is an annual day of observance held on February 4th to acknowledge the accomplishments of female athletes, to see the influence of sports for women, and to recognize the progress and struggle for equality for women in athletics.
The Fullerton College Physical Education and Athletic Department would like to honor all of the Hornet student athletes who graduated this year despite facing the many challenges of COVID-19 shutdown.
Both the Hornet men and women’s swim and dive teams will have a fresh look under new head coach Jerry Olszewski.
Sophia Gaitatjis was the lone Hornet swimmer to represent in the State Championships at De Anza College this past weekend.
In the women’s 200 Fly, Sophia Gaitatjis moved into the top 16 A position. She is now qualified to swim under B cuts in her other events in the State Championships.
