The FC women’s water polo team officially opened its 2025 season at the College of Marin Kick-Off Tournament and finished the weekend with a 2-2 record across four competitive games.

The FC women's water polo team officially opened its 2025 season at the College of Marin Kick-Off Tournament and finished the weekend with a 2-2 record across four competitive games.
The Hornets started fast, exploding in their opener with a 20-8 win over Cabrillo College. Fullerton's offense was sharp and relentless helping to set the tone for the weekend. The Hornets came out strong with a balanced offensive attack. Isabella Castaneda led the way with 6 goals, while Mckenna Dunning added 5 and Ava Spear chipped in 4. Shayla Summers (3) and Eliana Fernandez (2) rounded out the scoring. Goalkeeper Sienna Bertsch recorded 8 saves to help secure the lopsided victory.
In their second match, FC battled Cuesta College in a back-and-forth contest but came up just short in a 14-11 defeat. It began as a back-and-forth battle, however the Hornets fell just short despite a dominant performance from Dunning, who poured in a team-high 8 goals. Castaneda followed with 3 goals, giving the Hornets plenty of offense, but Cuesta managed to edge ahead late. Bertsch tallied 6 saves in goal.
The Hornets struggled to regain momentum in Game 3 falling 14-5 to American River College. Dunning scored twice, while Fernandez, Spear, and Addison Spoonhower each found the back of the net once. Bertsch stayed busy in the cage stopping 8 shots.
Determined to finish strong, Fullerton bounced back in the finale against a tough rival in Mt. SAC earning a 14-7 victory. The Hornet defense tightened, while the offense found its rhythm again to secure the team's second win of the tournament. Alissa Jacobs powered the offense with 4 and 3 goals respectively, while Dunning added 3 more to finish off a stellar weekend. Castaneda chipped in 2, with Fernandez and Spoonhower rounding out the scoring. Bertsch anchored the defense with 3 saves.

Up Next: The Hornets (2-2 overall) will not play again until Friday, September 12th when they will take part in the Orange Coast College Tournament. FC opens with Ventura College at 10:10 pm and then take on Santa Barbara City College later in the day at 1:25 pm.
