The Hornet track and field program turned in several strong performances at the 3C2A Southern California Championships last Saturday at Bakersfield College as the women's team finished 16th overall out of 22 teams with 13 total points, while three Hornets overall qualified for the upcoming state meet.
Olivia Yturriaga punched her ticket to the 3C2A State Championships with a fourth-place finish in the javelin after launching a personal-record throw of 115'1. Yturriaga enters the state meet ranked sixth overall in California and competed in the shot put where she recorded another personal record with a throw of 35'6.5" to place 12th overall. Originally listed as an alternate in the event, Yturriaga earned her opportunity after another athlete scratched and made the most of it with a strong showing.

She later added another strong finish in the 200 meters placing sixth with a time of 24.92, which qualified her as an alternate. Heading into the state finals, Krostag owns the fourth-fastest 400-meter time in the state.
In the field events, two-sport athlete Edie Pfefferkorn (soccer and track) competed in the javelin and finished 11th overall with a throw of 92 7".
Distance runner Brittany Rodriguez posted a time of 5:12.26 in the 1500 meters but was unable to compete in the 5K due to a mild calf strain.
On the men's side, the Hornets will send Zidane Ras to the State Championships after he qualified in the 5K with a strong Southern California Regional performance. Ras crossed the finish line in 15:11.66, earning his spot at state.
