The Hornets delivered an impressive performance at the Dave Shannon Invitational hosted by El Camino College on Friday, March 27th that was highlighted by personal bests as well as podium finishes.
Leading the way on the track was Jenna Krostag, who turned in a standout performance in the 400 meters. The sophomore clocked a personal-best time of 56.66 to claim first place, showcasing both composure and strength down the stretch. She followed that effort with a second-place finish in the 200 meters crossing the line in 25.34.
"Going into the race I felt confident and well prepared from the past weeks training," Krostag said. "My goal was to run sub-57. During the race, the first 300 went smooth and controlled and once I got to the last 100m I really tried to push myself and kick as much as I could, which definitely helped me hit the time goal."
In the field events, Olivia Yturriaga put together a dominant all-around effort. She captured first place in the hammer throw with a mark of 129'1", while also taking second in the javelin (98'4") and shot put (33'8" personal best). She added a third-place finish in the discus with another personal-best mark of 104'0" capping a big day across four events.
"My goals for the meet were to push my marks further in all my events. I focused on having a strong finish in my throws and using my full strength", said Yturriaga.
The Hornets also saw solid contributions from their middle-distance and hurdles groups. Brittany Rodriguez recorded a personal-best time of 2:27.41 in the 800 meters to finish sixth, while placing fourth in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:12.26. Astrid Morales added to the team's momentum with a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, posting a personal-best 1:14.53.
