Hornets Serve Up State Tournament Berths
The FC tennis program will be sending four standout competitors to the upcoming 3C2A State Tournament in Ojai.
The prestigious tournament is set for April 23-26 in Ojai, California and will feature the state's top players. Fullerton will be well represented after a successful showing at the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championships hosted at Orange Coast College.
Leading the charge is sophomore Destiny Lopez, who punched her ticket to Ojai in both singles and doubles competition. Lopez showcased resilience in singles play grinding out a first-round victory 6-2, 7-6 (4) to secure her spot among the state's elite.
Lopez wasn't done there. Teaming up with Amerie Johnson in doubles, the duo delivered a dominant 8-3 win in their qualifier earning a second entry for Lopez and a berth for Johnson.
The Hornet depth was further on display as the doubles team of Gianna Morales and Kelly Anne Luz powered their way into the state tournament with an impressive 8-2 victory in their opening-round qualifier.
On the men's side, Brayden Toniolo stepped up showing some grit and resilience in one of the most hard-fought matches of the weekend. After dropping the first set, Toniolo rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 comeback victory to qualify for the state tournament. His ability to respond under pressure highlighted the competitive edge the Hornets will carry into Ojai.
