The FC women’s tennis team put together a strong all-around performance at home last Friday rolling past Imperial Valley College with an 8–1 non-conference victory over the Desert Warriors.
The FC women's tennis team put together a strong all-around performance at home last Friday rolling past Imperial Valley College with an 8–1 non-conference victory over the Desert Warriors.
The Hornets set the tone early in doubles play sweeping both matches to grab a commanding lead. Destiny Lopez and Amerie Johnson were in control throughout their match earning an 8-4 win, while the duo of Kelly Anne Luz and Gianna Morales was dominant in an 8-0 shutout.
Amerie Johnson battled through a tough three-set match to secure a 7-5, 2-6, 10-8 victory showing poise in the deciding super tiebreaker. Destiny Lopez followed with another hard-fought win coming out on top 6-4, 3-6, 10-6. Kelly Anne Luz made quick work of her opponent cruising to a straight-set 6-2, 6-1 victory to cap a strong day for the Hornets.
Up next, the Hornets (1-7 overall) will look to carry that momentum into their next home match when they host Stanton University on Tuesday, February 24th at 1:00 pm.
