The Hornets came up just short in a 10-9 overtime loss to the University of San Diego at home last Saturday afternoon.
It was Sophomore Day for the team as head coach Pam Lewin honored second-year players Madison Lewis, Neva David, Zion Santos, Tiana Harrison, Ava Acuna, Sarah Tirre, Delaney Crile, and Brooklynn Peters prior to the start of the game.
San Diego jumped out early netting two quick goals to take control in the opening quarter. Fullerton responded with poise getting on the board behind Neva David, who led the offensive charge with a game-high four goals. The Hornets settled in during the second quarter stringing together key possessions and finding the back of the net to even the score at 3-3 heading into halftime.
The second half turned into a back-and-forth affair. Brooklynn Peters put forth a strong effort with three goals, while Annie Cavener and Delaney Crile added key scores to keep Fullerton within striking distance. Each time San Diego created separation, the Hornets answered.
In the extra period, both teams battled for possession before San Diego broke through with the game-winner handing the Hornets a tough one-goal defeat.
Defensively, Fullerton showed toughness throughout collecting 18 ground balls as a team. Goalkeeper Madison Lewis anchored the cage with five saves while facing constant pressure from the Torero's attack.
Up Next: Fullerton (6-4 overall) will look to bounce back on the road on Saturday, March 28th when the Hornets travel to Cal State Northridge for an 11:00 am matchup.
