The Hornets snapped a four-game home losing streak Wednesday night holding off a scrappy Riverside City squad 71-50 for a much-needed conference victory.

With the win, Fullerton improves to 11-13 overall and 3-5 in the Orange Empire Conference standings. Riverside City slips to 6-17 on the season and remains winless in OEC play at 0-8.
Fullerton came out blazing hot jumping out to a 10-1 lead in the opening minutes of the first quarter behind key buckets from Hailey Lakey, Savannah Hernandez, and Erin Choi. Femi Nodal capped the quarter with a deep three-pointer as the Hornets took a commanding 19-4 advantage.
In the second quarter, Fullerton extended the lead to as many as 18 points at 27-9. Riverside City refused to go away as the Tigers stayed aggressive and knocked down timely shots. RCC's Amia McKinney drilled a three-pointer late in the half helping to cut the deficit to 8, sending Fullerton into the break with a 34-26 lead.
The Hornets wasted little time regaining momentum in the third. Lakey opened the quarter with a layup followed by a Choi three-pointer. Shortly after, Chloe Chang converted two free throws to push the lead to 41-26. By the end of the quarter, Fullerton had rebuilt its cushion to 19 points, leading 57-38.
With control of the game in the fourth, Fullerton continued to pile it on. Nodal knocked down another three-pointer, while Jaylene Perez attacked the rim to keep the pressure on. With two minutes remaining, the Hornets led by 24 and comfortably ran out the clock.
Erin Choi had another scoring frenzy going off with a game-high 20 points (7-11 shooting/5-5 free throws) with 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals. Femi Nodal followed with 9 points (3-6 three-pointers). Haliey Lakey, Kazey Cruz and Jaylene Perez all scored 8 points apiece. Cruz dominated the boards with season-high 16 rebounds. Chole Chang and Savannah Hernandez both dropped in 7 points each.
Up Next: Fullerton (11-13 overall, 3-5 OEC) hits the road to face Santa Ana College on Friday, February 6, in another Orange Empire Conference matchup. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
