WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: LEAVING IT ALL ON THE COURT
After nice conference-win over Orange Coast College on Wednesday, the Fullerton College women's basketball team played their hearts out at home Friday night losing to Cypress College 70-59.
After nice conference-win over Orange Coast College on Wednesday, the Fullerton College women's basketball team played their hearts out at home Friday night losing to Cypress College 70-59.
The loss hurts the Hornets in the standings giving them an overall record of 5-11 and an Orange Empire Conference record of 1-3. The Chargers, however, bumped their winning record up a notch to 12-6 and remain undefeated in the OEC at 4-0.
Cypress came out firing in the first quarter grabbing an 18-10 advantage. With just over three minutes left in the quarter, FC made their move going on an 11-1 run. By the end of the quarter the Hornets took a 21-19 lead.
The second quarter was all Hornets as they kept the Chargers off balance. Aliyah-Deen Ahmad did some damage with three seconds left in the half when she hit a three-point dagger giving Fullerton a 37-30 lead.
At 5:44 in the third quarter, the Chargers came back to tie it up at 39-39 and then took the lead on their next possession on a layup by Nicole Miller. The final minutes of the quarter was a dogfight as both teams matched each other shot for shot. By the quarter's end, the Hornets remained on top narrowly 50-48.
The Chargers took back the lead at 8 minutes in the fourth quarter and added to it. With 2:12 left in the game, Cypress had a commanding 10-point lead (66-56) dashing Fullerton's hopes of upsetting a team that they have not beat in four years.
Aliyah-Deen Ahmad played very well scoring a team-high 14 points with 7 rebounds. Lani Maehara and Kristen Sheriff both dropped in 11 points while Lyneya Turner scored 9 points with 4 rebounds.
