SOFTBALL: LEAPING OVER CANYONS

The FC softball squad earned its first victory of the season on Thursday at College of the Canyons 10-2.

The Hornets started the game off with two runs in the 1st inning. Celeste Borza doubled to left center scoring Madison Ferguson and Miranda Rooney hit a sacrifice fly to left giving Danielle Ramirez a chance to cross home plate.

In the 2nd inning, Fullerton snuck in another run on Natalie Gonzalez's single to center field plating Nicole Gonzalez-Gutierrez from the third base bag.

FC kept it rolling in the 3rd dropping two more runs on the Cougars. With the bases loaded, Jessica Lopez was hit by a pitch forcing Rooney home. A batter later, Khloe Lilavois plunked by a pitch scoring Sara Rengifo.

Canyons managed a run in the 3rd when Chisato Kawahara knocked a triple to right center scoring Brianna Vazquez.

Up 5-1 heading into the 6th inning, Fullerton pumped in two more runs. Ferguson ripped a single to left field that brought Lilavois home and Ramirez's SAC, bunt brought in Ferguson.

FC was not done in the 7th adding three more runs for good measure. Anahi Agredano reached on a fielder's choice allowing Haylee Enriquez to score. Borza clubbed a double to center field scoring Agredano scored, and Rooney's single to left scored Nicole Chavez.

The Cougars mustered up their second run of the game in the bottom of the 9th on Vazquez's SAC fly to center advancing Nataly Miranda home.

The FC bats were hot as the team had 13 total hits with only 3 batters striking out.

Fullerton's starting pitcher Jessica Lopez grabbed her first win of the season going 5 innings with 1 earned run against. She had 3 walks, 3 hits against, and 7 K's.

Up Next: The Hornets (1-2 overall) will hit the road on Tuesday, February 11th when they play Palomar College. The first pitch goes out at 2:30 pm.
