STATE CHAMPIONSHIP RUN

On Saturday, the Hornets traveled to Fresno, California for the 3C2A State Cross Country Championships to compete at the traditional Woodward Park and represented well. 

The weather was calling for rain in the morning, however that did not stop the Hornets from performing at their best. On the women's side, Southern California individual qualifier Haily Roberts stood at the line ready to run her best race. She was on target to break 21 minutes for her 5K performance. Roberts ran across the line 65th out of 172 runners and met her goal with a PR time of 20:56.

"I'm so happy to break 21 minutes and ran the course smart despite the muddy treacherous conditions", claimed Roberts.  

The FC men's team consisting of four freshmen and three sophomores stood at the line ready to race and all their work for the last five months came down to this performance. The gun went off and found their positions quickly running amongst the 192 runners. Within 25 minutes or less, the race was over, and the men finished 22nd out of 24 teams in the state. The course was extra muddy from the women's race; however they knew where to run and get good footing on the course as other runners around them were slipping and falling from the mucky and sludgy conditions.

"These runners are extra talented, and I'm looking forward to watching their success in the upcoming track and field season. Overall, it was a very successful season for the Hornets", said Hornet Head Coach Gina Bevec.
