SUCCESS AT THE 3C2A OJAI TOURNAMENT

The Hornet tennis program had a big weekend at the 3C2A State Finals in Ojai with Sebastian Koster making it all the way to the Quarterfinals and Josie Miranda earning the Most Improved Sophomore award.

After two epic three-setters in men's singles, Sebastian Koster worked some on-the-court magic making it all the way to the Quarterfinals. In Round 128, Koster qualified for a bye, and then swept through his opponent from El Camino College 6-0, 6-0 in Round 64. Despite dropping the first set 3-6 in Round 32, Koster bounced back with an impressive 6-3, 6-4 victory over his opponent from American River. He fought hard in Round 16 to get past his opponent from Glendale 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 to make it to the Quarterfinal Round. Koster lost in the next round 6-4, 6-4 (Irvine Valley) completing the tournament with a top 8 finish.  

In men's doubles, Sebastian Koster and Felix Jayamaha won 6-2, 6-3 over Modesto College in Round 64 but then lost in Round 32 6-2, 6-1 to Foothill College. David Gutierrez and Michael Lumang fought hard in Round 64 before falling 7-6, 7-5 to their opponents from Santa Barbara City College.

The FC women's team represented well in the Ojai Tournament having two doubles teams win their first-round matches before falling in Round 64. Alyssa Lopez and Arleth Vega-Estevez beat their first round opponents from Porterville 6-1, 6-1, and then lost to Santa Monica 6-1, 6-0. The FC doubles team of Josie Miranda and Justine Koo knocked off their opponents from Modesto 6-4, 6-3 and then lost a tough one in Round 64 to Bakersfield 6-2, 6-0.

As voted on by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), Josie Miranda was selected as Most Improved Sophomore for her efforts the past two seasons. Click here to see the complete list of ITA Regional Awards.
