In a wet and rainy match last Friday night, the Hornets stormed back with two late goals to beat visiting Orange Coast 2-1.
The victory lifts Fullerton to 8-6-7 overall and 7-2-5 in Orange Empire Conference play capping a strong regular season finish to clinch the No. 14 seed in the 2025 Southern California Regional Playoffs. The playoff berth marks the 7th out of 8 seasons played under Head Coach Greg Aviles.
It was also Sophomore Night as 14 second-year players were honored before the game for their hard work and dedication on the field and in the classroom. The sophomores recognized were Andrew Arreola, Francisco Torres, Jarrod Rodriguez, Josiahs Palacios, Steven Martinez, Brandon Acevedo, Kevin Castro, Evan Courtney, David Suarez, Diego Bravo, Leon Hoang, Alexis Villanueva, Syed Hussain, and Cole Hamilton.
The Pirates maneuvered well through the wet terrain striking first in the 29th minute when a loose ball in the box was pushed in by OCC for a 1-0 advantage.
Fullerton held its composure and hit back in the 72nd minute when Andrew Arreola made a perfectly timed run on a set piece and hammered home the game-tying goal off an assist from Leon Hoang.
Roughly five minutes later, Josiahs Palacios found space inside the box and buried the game winning goal off a pass from David Suarez to give Fullerton a 2–1 lead.
FC goalkeeper Steven Martinez kept the Hornets within striking distance by turning away 7 shots and finishing with 6 saves on the night.
Up Next: The No. 14 seed Hornets (8-6-7 overall) will host No. 19 San Diego City College (11-6-5 overall) on Hal Sherbeck Field this Wednesday, November 19th at 7:00 pm.
