Fullerton could not overcome an early scoring surge by Cuyamaca College in the home opener Tuesday night falling to the Coyotes 4-1.
The non-conference loss put the Hornets at 1-3-2 overall, while Cuyamaca improves to 4-0-1 overall.
The Coyotes struck quickly in the first two minutes of the match when Esteban Salais found the back of the net off an assist from Marcos Santillan. Fullerton responded less than six minutes later as Josiahs Palacios scored the equalizer, his fifth goal of the season, finishing a setup from defender David Suarez.
Cuyamaca regained momentum in the 12th minute when Diego Esquivel capitalized on a penalty kick to put the Coyotes ahead 2-1. Just 20 seconds later, Santillan managed to with help from Victor Renteria, who found an open lane extending the lead to 3-1.
The Hornets held Cuyamaca scoreless for the rest of the first half but surrendered another strike early in the second when Salais scored his second of the match in the 47th minute that sealed the 4-1 decision.
Despite generating 10 total shots and four on frame, Fullerton could not break through again after Palacios' early goal.
Up Next: The Hornets (1-3-2 overall) will host another non-conference match on Tuesday, September 23rd when Norco College comes to Sherbeck Field. Match-time is at 7:00 pm.
