MEN’S SOCCER: PENALTY KICK SAVES FULLERTON
The Hornets kicked off at home against Chaffey on Wednesday for their third non-conference game of the season. The team entered the day with a 1-1 record so far, in search of their second consecutive win after beating Glendale by three goals on August 30th.

The Hornets kicked off at home against Chaffey on Wednesday for their third non-conference game of the season. The team entered the day with a 1-1 record so far, in search of their second consecutive win after beating Glendale by three goals on August 30th.
As the hot sun beat down on both teams, they battled each other for a full 90 minutes with the first sign of action coming right in the middle of the first half.
Fullerton saw themselves go down early as Ivan Diaz of Chaffey would be the one to open up the scoring in the 22nd minute, scoring an unassisted goal past Hornet goalie Keven Gonzalez.
As the teams exited the field at the end of the first half, Fullerton still found themselves down 1-0 at the hands of Chaffey's goal scorer, Diaz.
The whistle blows for the second half and the 1-0 score would hold for only 20 minutes longer before the Hornets were awarded a penalty kick in the 65th minute.
Ryan Meinardus stepped up to the spot to take the penalty kick and slotted it right past the Chaffey goalkeeper to even the score at 1-1. The goal was Meinardus' second of the season to go along with a single assist over the first three games.
The final 25 minutes would bleed out without another goal being scored. Chaffey and Fullerton would end the game in a stalemate at 1-1.
Goalkeepers Keven Gonzalez and Anthony Rodriguez both played 45 minutes each with Gonzalez getting 3 saves in the first half and Rodriguez having 3 in the second half..
Up Next: The Hornets (1-1-1 overall) will play at the Mount San Antonio College Invitational this weekend. They will open with College of the Desert on Friday, September 6th at 5:00pm. FC's next home game will be against Antelope Valley on Tuesday, September 10th at 3:00pm.
