HORNET DEFENSE SWARMS IRVINE VALLEY
The No. 1 Fullerton College men’s basketball team hit the road Wednesday night for an Orange Empire Conference matchup at No. 27 Irvine Valley College and locked up the Lasers with a dominant 71-38 victory.
The impressive win marked the Hornet's 20th of the season improving FC to 20-1 overall. Under head coach Perry Webster, Fullerton College has now posted a 20-win campaign in each of his ten seasons at the helm.
Fullerton put on a defensive clinic holding IVC to just 38 total points- the lowest scoring output by an opponent against the Hornets this season. Running the floor early, FC jumped out to a 20-7 lead capped by a Bishop Brooks three-pointer. The Hornets kept the Lasers off balance for the remainder of the half allowing just 9 points and taking a commanding 38-16 advantage into the break.
The Hornets never let up in the second half pushing their lead to as many as 34 points (66–32) following a three-pointer by Anthony Smith Jr. with just under six minutes remaining. FC's defense continued to stifle Irvine Valley forcing 16 turnovers that turned into 17 points. Fullerton also controlled the glass outrebounding the Lasers 41-27.
Three Hornets scored in double figures led by Brayden Smith with 16 points, followed by Yoda Oke with 11, and Jaedyn Patterson with 10. Oke recorded another double-double pulling down 11 rebounds, while Patterson distributed the ball efficiently with 7 assists. Donovan Pitts, Trey Thompson, and Bishop Brooks each added 7 points.
