SCREAMING PAST THE COMETS
With turkey dinners fresh in their bellies, the Hornets burned it all off on Saturday afternoon as they paid a visit to Palomar College and beat the Comets 79-57.
Palomar threw the first bit of chaos into the mix when guard Benji Nudo checked in and immediately caught fire. Whether it was drives, pull-ups, or deep threes, Nudo couldn't miss dropping 18 of the Comet's 30 first-half points and keeping Palomar within striking distance. The Hornets, however, weathered the storm controling the tempo, moving the ball, and shooting well as the team held a close 34-30 halftime lead.
The second half swung the Hornet's way forcing two Palomar scoring droughts. The first came with the Hornets holding a 48–43 edge at the 13:35 mark. What followed was a 10-0 run bumping up their at 58-43 by the 9-minute mark. Another big push came with 7:18 left as FC went up 62-52. The Hornets tightened the screws defensively holding Palomar without a field goal for 6 minutes while building a 74-52 cushion that sealed the win.
Leading the way offensively was Brayden Smith, who hit 10 of 13 shots scoring a team-high 20 points while adding 9 boards. Jaqari Miles (19 points/8 rebounds) and Yoda Oke (18 points/7 rebounds) gave FC a three-headed scoring punch that Palomar couldn't match. Donovan Pitts added 10 points with 3 rebounds.
Up Next: The Hornets (7-1 overall) hit the road again this week traveling to San Diego Miramar this Wednesday, December 3rd. Tipoff is at 6:00 pm.
