The FC men's basketball team had to withstand every punch from a determined San Bernardino Valley squad on Wednesday night holding on for a 59-56 victory in the Hornets Nest.
In a game that featured 6 ties and 7 lead changes, the Hornets (6-1 overall) relied on solid shooting, tough rebounding, and composure at the free throw line to outlast the visiting Wolverines (4-4 overall). Both teams fought hard keeping it close throughout the first half with Fullerton taking a 23-19 lead by the halftime break.
The second half was another battle with FC averaging a 5-point lead over the Wolverines until the final seconds. The game got dicey with 17 second left when the Wolverines' Lincoln Liggins hit a deep trey to bring SBVC within one point of the Hornets 57-56. In the next Fullerton possession, Jaqari Miles was fouled and sent to the line. He managed to ice the game knocking down both free throws helping the Hornets to take the victory.
Miles delivered another big performance scoring a game-high 20 points, including 3-for-6 from three-point range while also going 5-of-7 at the line. Yoda Oke was strong in the paint putting up 10 points and 9 rebounds just missing a double-double. Donovan Pitts chipped in 9 points, while Brayden Smith added 7 points and 11 rebounds.
The Hornets won the shooting battle, finishing 38.6% from the field and 31.6% from beyond the arc, compared to the Wolverines' 34.6% shooting and 23.5% from three-point range. Fullerton also held a key advantage in fastbreak points (12–2) and forced 15 turnovers, keeping San Bernardino off balance.
