Playing in the last game of 2024, the No. 2 Hornets made it 2-0 in the Orange Empire Conference standings after defeating Santa Ana College at home Friday night 85-68.
The FC win lifts the team to a 13-1 overall record and is now 2-0 in the OEC with 11 straight wins. The Don's loss pushes them back to 10-5 overall, while keeping the team winless in conference-play at 0-2.
With the game tied 6-6 in the opening minutes of the contest, the Hornets out-hustled and overpowered the Dons with a 12-4 run giving Fullerton a 18-10 lead at 12:20. Santa Ana didn't break so easily pulling within 5 points before Addy G'bye drained a three-pointer and Kairi Shepherd hit a jumper for a 25-15 advantage at the 8-minute mark. Two more treys by G'Bye, another by Jaqari Miles, plus Darvelle Wyatt's power-lay-up with three Don's on top of him allowed the Hornets to pull even further away at 42-28 with 2 minutes left in the half. Justin Davis sent both teams to their locker-rooms with a steal and lay-in for a 47-30 halftime edge.
Fullerton continued with a barrage of buckets in the second half when Addy G'Bye opened it with another one from beyond the arc. Following a drive in the lane and bucket by Joe Grahovac, the Hornets were running strong at 67-47 with just under 8 minutes to go. A steal by Jackson Hopps gave way to a pretty alley-oop off the backboard from Justin Davis to Brayden Smith, who displayed a power-dunk that put the finishing touch on the game.
Addy G'Bye led the way for the Hornets with 19 points with 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Jaqari Miles helped out with 17 points, while Joe Grahovac scored 12 with 5 rebounds and 2 blocks. Jackson Hopps also put up 12 points and added 4 rebounds. Darvelle Wyatt checked in with 7 points with 5 rebounds for the win.
Up Next: The No. 2 in state Hornets (13-1 overall, 2-0 OEC) won't play again until 2025, however they will resume their conference schedule traveling to No. 9 Santiago Canyon College (12-3 overall, 2-0 OEC) on Friday, January 3rd. Tipoff is at 5:00 pm.
