FOOTBALL: HOY CCCSIA ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Fullerton's Hoy and Siskiyous' Dailey Named CCCSIA Athletes of the Year.

The California Community College Sports Information Association named Fullerton College football's Jordan Hoy and College of the Siskiyous women's basketball player Melissa Dailey its 2016-2017 Athletes of the Year. The awards, voted on by members of the CCCSIA Executive Board, are in their seventh year of existence recognizing a top student-athlete from each gender. The 2016-2017 award winners are the first in their respective sports.

Hoy, a freshman quarterback, helped guide the Hornets to the 2016 CCCAA State Championship title along with being recognized by JC Gridwire and JC Gridiron as Junior College National Champions. Hoy set several school records in passing as he led the state in total offense (4,146 yards). Hoy led the entire state in quarterback rating posting a gaudy 164.8. He led Fullerton in rushing with 712 yards and nine TD carries. He completed 246 of 391 passes (63 percent) for 3,434 yards, including 37 touchdowns and a remarkably low-for-attempt of six interceptions.

Hoy piled up the accolades in 2016 as he was the MVP of the State Championship Bowl, an All-American, and SCFA Southern League Offensive Player of the Year. He was also the California Community College Football Coaches Association National Division Offensive Player of the Year, and CCCFCA Region III State Offensive Player of the Year.

In five of Fullerton's wins, he helped his team score 56, 62, 79, 63, and 59 points. Fullerton led the state in points per game at 49.9 with Hoy generating most of the offense. The Hornets scored 88 touchdowns on the season, 20 more than the next highest team.

Hoy prepped at Rockwell-Heath High School and hails from Heath, Texas. Hoy has accepted a scholarship offer from Old Dominion University (Va.).

Dailey, a sophomore guard, took Siskiyous to it's first-ever CCCAA State Championship game appearance. Dailey racked up a bevy of postseason awards, including the CCCWBCA State Player of the Year from the North region. Dailey was also recognized as the Golden Valley Conference MVP, and was named to the All-Tournament team at the 2017 CCCAA State Championships.

Dailey led the entire state in scoring and assists during the 2016-2017 campaign. The Golden Eagle averaged 26.1 points and 7.6 assists per game on the season, and added 4.7 boards and 2.2 steals per game for good measure. Dailey finished third in the state in free-throw percentage (81.2), and fourth in the state in 3-point percentage (42.5) hitting 117 treys, the second most in California. Dailey scored 30 or more points in 10 games, including a season high of 41.

Dailey, who prepped at Centennial High School in Portland (Ore.), has accepted a scholarship offer from the University of North Dakota.
