HORNETS HOST THE SUPER REGIONAL AND WIN
The #4 Palomar Comets opened up the SoCal Super Regional Playoffs edging the #5 Glendale College Vaqueros 3-2. The #1 Fullerton College Hornets took control early with an 8-0 win over #8 El Camino Compton College.
HORNETS HOST THE SUPER REGIONAL AND WIN: The #4 Palomar Comets opened up the SoCal Super Regional Playoffs edging the #5 Glendale College Vaqueros 3-2. The #1 Fullerton College Hornets took control early with an 8-0 win over #8 El Camino Compton College.
The first game of the day between Palomar College (27-12) and #5 Glendale College was a defensive standoff went on to edge the Vaqueros 3-2. Palomar scored the first run on a single by Dillan Smith 2B allowing SS Denni Morton to cross home plate for the 1-0 lead. The score remained 1-0 until the 8th inning when Glendale SS Pepe Marquez singled to right center scoring PR Eddie Munoz and DH Austin Walker going up 2-1 on the Comets. Palomar kept chipping away as RF Nico Garbella (walked) and Catcher Becker Sanke (hit by pitch) each found ways to get on base. Morton's single to the left side scored Garbella tying the game up at 2 apiece. Vigo flied out to center field giving Navarro the SAC run and the 3-2 Comet lead and eventual victory.
In the second game between the Hornets and the Tartars, FC opened up a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning on a 2 RBI single to the right side of the field by SS Jose Rojas scoring 3B Erik Lewis and CF Dakota Wix. LF Uriel Salinas hit a SAC fly to center scoring DH Troy Mulcahey for the third run. FC scored two more runs in the 4th and 5th innings (Wix single scoring Salinas and Rojas scored on an error). In the 8th, the Hornets put the game away scoring three more runs on a Lewis single scoring RF Ryan Joyce, a SAC Fly by Mulcahey scoring 2B Nick Gotta, and a Hit-By-Pitch on Catcher Paul Frias forcing in Wix.
Starting pitcher Jeff Curran (8-2) threw a complete game gem allowing only 5 hits for the win.
Up Next: Fullerton will host Palomar College at Hornet Field on Saturday, May 11th @ 11:00 am. #5 Glendale College will host #8 El Camino Compton at Santa Ana College's Sneddon Field on Saturday, May 11th @ 10:00 am. The winner of that game will play the loser of the Fullerton/Palomar game on Saturday, May 11th back at Hornet Field at 2:30 pm.
